Beltane Magic
May-June
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a fantastic Beltane season! The sun is shining, the hawthorn is
blooming, swallows are darting across the levels; flowers are in full colour and the energies of the land surge with
life-force. It is quite beautiful here in Avalon.
The
town has been thriving with visitors, and the celebrations over Beltane
and Mayday bank holiday weekend have been outstanding. There were so
many events over the whole week that it was difficult for anyone to get
to all of them.
This is a picture taken at the start of the community fire, Who could that be in the flames?
Highlights of the week;
Beltane
Eve Firewalking (of course);The White Spring - Max's story of the
Winter King and Greeting the May Queen after their mysterious inner
journey during The Ghostdance; The Community Fire and Celebration at
Bushey Combe; 'The Cleaning Ladies' and 'OI' street dances; Cafe
Culture performances; and the Beltane Ball on Saturday night.
Bits we missed...... luckily there are some great pictures
Firewalk
Where Magic Met Science - BBC one show
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How surreal can a firewalk get?
On Beltane Eve, in an amazing beautiful spot at the base of Glastonbury
Tor, with an energised and excited group of people, and a BBC film crew
interested only in the science of firewalking, it can get very surreal indeed.
The One show will be featuring the Beltane Eve Firewalk on
Wednesday 21st May at 7pm on BBC1.

Beltane
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beltane is a Celtic word which means 'fires of Bel' (Bel was a
Celtic Sun deity). It is a fire festival that celebrates of the coming of
summer and the fertility of the coming year. Celtic festivals
often tied in with the needs of the community. In spring time, at the
beginning of the farming calendar, everybody would be hoping for a
fruitful year for their families and feilds.
Also
known as May Day, Beltane is the second of the 'Earth' festivals
on our Wheel of the Year and is the holiday that celebrates
the sacred union of the Goddess and the God. Myths say that
at this time, the young God (sun/son) who was re-born at the
Winter Solstice has blossomed into manhood and he and the
Goddess become lovers. Through their union and fertility,
all life begins again on the earth.
Other festivities
involved fire which was thought to cleanse, purify and increase
fertility. Cattle were often passed between two fires and the
properties of the flame and the smoke were seen to ensure the fertility
of the herd.
Emma
Restall Orr, a modern day Druid, speaks of the 'fertility of our
personal creativity'. (Spirits of the Sacred Grove, pub. Thorsons,
1998, pg.110). She is referring to the need for active
and creative lives. We need fertile minds for our work, our families
and our interests.
Fire is still the most important element of
most Beltane celebrations and there are many traditions associated with
it. It is seen to have purifying qualities which cleanse and
revitalise. People leap over the Beltane fire to bring good fortune,
fertility (of mind, body and spirit) and happiness through the coming
year.
Quick Fix
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After
the Beltane firewalk, one of the participants commented that my
teaching was like an arrow. This was a touching remark and reminded me
of a song I often sing in the White Spring. 'Brigit our Lady, born of
flaming arrows, Flame of divinity, guide us through the darkness'
As
we had lit the Beltane Eve fire from Brigit's sacred flame, I thought
it would be useful for us all to use this rising tide of Beltane energy
along with Brigit's arrow to seed a powerful intent.
If you wish, you can ask the goddess Brigid to guide and support you. Think about what it is that you most wish to achieve
in your life now; what new idea or vision do you want to give birth to
in the coming months? As you think about your wish, your dream, your
divine right order; allow a symbol - a word or a picture, something
that represents your intent to come to the front of your mind.
Clear and direct intent is first needed if you are to fully realise and integrate your dreams and visions. Make
your symbol strong, focus it in your mind, hold it for a moment in
your intellect. Then allow it to move from your third eye, down through
your body to your heart.
Let it simply sit there and allow it
to resonate there in the centre of your heart. From there you will
create your heart's desire - a true divine right order, and you will
know what steps you need to take next.
Now imagine, sense,
feel, and experience a light bow and arrow in your hands. Draw back the
arrow, and watch as the symbol of your intent leaps from your heart to
the feathers. Bring the intent from the feathers, along the shaft to
the very tip of your arrow. Your arrow now burns with powerful intent.
As
you release your flaming arrow, you know that it will get to the point,
you know that your arrow will hit it's mark; you know there is no need
to hold on to it, you can surrender because your intent is seeded and
will come to fruition.
After setting powerful intent, action
is needed; identify and take the first step towards your intent this
week, tomorrow if possible.
Give thanks for bright blessings and inspiration.

Messages from Nature

This
message comes from The Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and Jamie Carson. I
have worked with these cards for many years, and always found them to
be a comfortable and grounded oracle to work with.

Whilst looking for more information about Black Panther I came across this interesting website, you might want to take a look.
Power Animals and their Messages.
Black Panther
Facing the Unknown
This animal has always been associated with death,
mysticism, the dark of the moon and of course the shadow of night. Because of our
primitive fear of death and darkness we must move beyond the terror we
have if we are to understand the power of panther and its dark beauty.
The message of panther is to make night your friend. Make yourself
familiar with night animals. Do not be afraid of power.
Darkness
is the place for seeking and finding answers, for accepting healing and
for accessing the hidden light of truth. Black Panther teaches us
through our dreams to delve into the places within that need healing.
She shows us how to track the unfamiliar territory found on the journey
to self- discovery and to fearlessly face the unknown.
Black
Panther may be telling you not to worry about the future. Trust that
you are not supposed to mentally 'figure it out' at this time. You may
need to confront fears of the unknown, of being less than you truly
are, or an inability to simply BE.
Let go of the fears that
appear as obstacles or barriers. Embrace the unknown and flow with the
mystery that is unfolding in your life. The next step may be leaping
into the void with implicit trust. In the stillness of the void, find
the will to avoid foolish interuptions, and allow yourself to go deeper
into your own self discovery and healing process.
Here you will discover Panther's unexpected blessings.

Affirmations
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each negative thought or word
is a negative affirmation and they can be even more
powerful than positive affirmations because we often find them easier to accept.
It is these negative thoughts that feed and validate our negative internal
beliefs. Under this kind of negative bombardment some people simply do not have
the strength to break free of their negative thoughts and become hopelessly
locked into their own (usually false) negative beliefs.
Positive affirmations are designed to challenge those negative beliefs and
start to stem the flow of negative thoughts and words that seek to validate
them. Affirmations are more than just repeating words. It is a whole process of
becoming aware of your thoughts and words in everyday life, choosing to think
and project happy positive thoughts. The more you can consciously inject the
spirit of your affirmations into your daily thoughts and words, the quicker they
will work for you.
Affirmations for Health
- Every Cell in my body vibrates with energy and
health
- Loving myself heals my life. I nourish my mind,
body and soul
- My body heals quickly and easily
Affirmations for Love
- I know that I deserve Love and accept it now
- I give out Love and it is returned to me
multiplied
- I rejoice in the Love I encounter everyday
